JANE EYRE

                                                                 Jane Eyre

       Charlotte  Bronte was a writer from England who wrote novels and poems. She was born in 1816 and died in 1855. Her pen name was Currer Bell.  One of the most important novels that she wrote was Jane Eyre.  It tells the story of an orphan girl that suffers abuse from her family. This story is develop in the Victoria era.

   Jane is the main character of the story. A girl who despite of her situation, defend her values and did not permit that her cousin take advantage of her, although this affect her  with  punishments. Another character is Mrs. Reed, Jane`s Aunt, who raises her,but with resentment because her husband loved Jane more than his own children. John Reed is Jane`s cousin, one of the members of the family along with her aunt that made her life impossible. Finally, Bessie Lee is the maid who treads Jane kindly.

    Due to her mother´s death, Jane was obliged to live with her uncle. But he passed away. She stayed with her uncle`s wife and cousins. But she did not have a good time living with them due to the bad treatment given by them. Specially her cousin John Redd, who treats Jane with cruelty. Because of him,Jane is sent to the red-room, in which her uncle died, because she fought with her cousin. After a while, she was send to school, but it was not a good experience at all. This, because of her headmaster.

         

      This book is developed in the Victoria era. This period was characterized for the inequity between men and women. For example, women cannot vote, and do not have political jobs. Also the quality of life depends of their status. The families were biggest, and children were raise by nannies. Children were obliged to work ,between other reasons because they were cheaper than adults and easily replaced.

           Jane Eyre is an autobiographical story of Charlotte Bronte, in this story she narrates part of her life that is mark for the lots  of her parents, and cruelty from her cousins and aunt in a Victorian era were women did not have the same rights than men.
